Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS) announced a temporary closure of Mustang Alley, adjacent to the FCCPS Secondary Campus, which includes Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School and Meridian High School. Due to the ongoing West Falls Project development, this closure will begin immediately after school is dismissed on June 16, 2023, and extend throughout the summer. The roadway will reopen by August 14, 2023.
The Haycock Road entrance to Mustang Alley will be closed during this period. All traffic destined for the Secondary Campus will enter and exit via Route 7/West Broad Street entrance.
The decision to close Mustang Alley to all vehicular traffic was made to expedite the project's completion of the finished Mustang Alley roadway and ensure the safety of students, staff, and community members. However, a pedestrian/bicycle path will remain open, providing a safe route for non-motorized traffic.
"We understand the potential inconveniences this temporary closure may cause," said Superintendent Peter Noonan. "We appreciate the community's understanding and patience as we navigate this critical construction phase. These modifications are designed to ensure community safety and facilitate the successful completion of a project that promises significant benefits to our community."
The successful completion of the West Falls Project is eagerly anticipated, promising a positive impact on the community. FCCPS remains committed to informing the community about the project's progress, potential changes in traffic patterns, and any necessary adjustments. FCCPS extends its thanks to the community for their understanding, cooperation, and shared commitment to the safety and enhancement of Falls Church.
