Each year the Virginia Municipal League puts out the "If I Were Mayor" letter contest to 7th graders across Virginia.
The contest asks 7th graders to discuss the changes they would make to their community if they were mayor, dovetailing with their Civics curriculum. Given the pandemic this year, the students were asked to write, from their perspective, what worked and what they would change for virtual learning.
The school winners are from left to right 1st place Seth Hahn, 2nd place Sylvia Witt, and 3rd place William Hefferan. Congratulations! Read the ideas they put forward in their essays here.
State's Region 5 Winner
Higher acclaim goes to Claire Weatherly far right who is the statewide Region 5 winner this year. Her essay is here.
Congratulations to all of these students for their ideas and their writing. All winners will be featured in the May issue of the Virginia Municipal League magazine.
